Connection Meditation

Connection Meditation

13- or 19-minute meditation that cultivates a sense of connectedness
Connection meditation is a practice that cultivates a sense of connectedness by finding a memory of a specific moment of connection and then fanning that out to experience ourselves as part of a vast network of interconnectedness. This is a wonderful guided meditation for total beginners as well as experienced meditators. It works beautifully as an opener, an element in a ceremony, as a mood-shifter, or as a way of accessing deeper emotions and ways of knowing.

Is participant experience relevant for Connection Meditation ?

It's okay if participants haven't seen the inside of a classroom in years

Audience description for Connection Meditation

I believe that literally everyone benefits from this kind of meditation.
That said, it is important to remind participants that this is their meditation, that they can engage in the way they want to, they can stop at any time.
You can reinforce that by posing meditation instructions as invitations or options as opposed to commands.

That said, keep the following in mind:
- Trauma is very widespread. It is safe to assume that any group of 10 people has 4-5 people who have experienced some kind of trauma and likely hold those memories in their bodies. Because of this it is very important to normalize the experience of trauma. You can do that by encouraging people to work at a level that feels good to them. Empower people to follow your invitations or do what feels right internally. If anything is overwhelming or too much, open your eyes, touch the ground, think of someone or something that is comforting to you.
- Normalize resistance to visualization. Many people are sure they don't know how to visualize or that visualization doesn't work for them. Reassure them that however they do it is just fine.
- Do not assume you know what or how people are feeling.
- Tell people how long the meditation is.
- Make sure the room is a comfortable temperature, relatively quiet, and not too brightly lit.
