Connection Meditation
What is Connection Meditation about ?
Connection meditation is great for starting the day, opening our minds to other ways of thinking, and using the imagination to shift our internal outlook.
Audience
Is participant experience relevant for Connection Meditation ?
Audience description for Connection Meditation
I believe that literally everyone benefits from this kind of meditation.
That said, it is important to remind participants that this is their meditation, that they can engage in the way they want to, they can stop at any time.
You can reinforce that by posing meditation instructions as invitations or options as opposed to commands.
That said, keep the following in mind:
- Trauma is very widespread. It is safe to assume that any group of 10 people has 4-5 people who have experienced some kind of trauma and likely hold those memories in their bodies. Because of this it is very important to normalize the experience of trauma. You can do that by encouraging people to work at a level that feels good to them. Empower people to follow your invitations or do what feels right internally. If anything is overwhelming or too much, open your eyes, touch the ground, think of someone or something that is comforting to you.
- Normalize resistance to visualization. Many people are sure they don't know how to visualize or that visualization doesn't work for them. Reassure them that however they do it is just fine.
- Do not assume you know what or how people are feeling.
- Tell people how long the meditation is.
- Make sure the room is a comfortable temperature, relatively quiet, and not too brightly lit.
Requirements
A quiet place that will be relatively undisturbed for the duration of the meditation.
Run Through
It can be wonderful to begin with some sort of bodywork — yoga, stretching, walking outdoors, or even dancing or something that gets the heart rate up.
Afterward
Does Connection Meditation work online?
It sure does! Be sure to mute all participants and that you have good sound quality to lead it and you are good to go.
Material for
For Connection Meditation materials (or for any meditation), it can be nice to have a bell to ring at the end and/or some incense to burn.
