The Power of Yet is a simple exercise of shifting the language we use to be more empowering. In this method, we identify a situation we'd like to change and add "yet" to a statement about it. When we say this statement to ourselves or to a partner, insights may arise and energy may move in our bodies. It's amazing!
When and why is this Method used ?
The Power of Yet is used anytime we want to offer a boost of empowerment or demonstrate how simple and accessible empowerment can be.

Steps
Introduction
Words can block action, but words can also carry us past blocks. In this exercise we will identify something that you currently can't or don't do but would like to, then we create an empowering statement around that activity. You might be surprised by what happens for you when we do this.
List some things you can't or don't do, but would like to (or would like to be able to do).
Invite everyone to either use the handout or their journal to write down at least three things that can't or don't do but would like to.
Pick one.
Pick one of the items on your list. One that is not totally unreasonable (not “fly me to the moon!”), one that you’re really sure about: yes, I’d love to do that!
Circle that one.
Then write in the space below (or in your journal): How would your life be richer if you could?
Try "yet".
Try “yet”.
“I don’t/can’t/haven’t... ...yet.”
Try it with a partner.
Put the participants into pairs and invite them to say their new statement to each other. As they do, invite them to notice: Do you feel a difference?
After they have each made their statements to each other, invite them to reflect in their journals: what comes up for you as you say this? Are you inspired to write down what is stopping you and/or what would make it possible? Do you notice any shift in your relationship to this action?
Reflection
After 5 minutes or so of journaling, invite them to share in pairs or in the large group and reflect on how this practice was for them.

Hidden Curriculum The not so hidden curriculum of the Power of Yet is empowerment! The more hidden curriculum is awareness and mindfulness.
Individual EmpowermmentThere's nothing different you need to do: it is inherently empowering.
Group EmpowermentThe potential of the Power of Yet for group empowerment and Community of Practice was revealed in the Hosting Empowerment partnership: we put this method into our workbook and then it became part of our working lexicon. At monthly coordination meetings every month someone would say something like "I haven't finished that thing I said I would do… yet!" Or someone would say "This is so frustrating! I can't do it!" and then everyone else would chorus "YET!" So it became a part of our culture because we were all familiar with the method and we could practice it together and reinforce the habit for each other.
